Hi, my name is Katrina. I’m a yoga teacher and I’m passionate about social justice and the transformative power of yoga. I believe that through breath and movement we can all connect to our inner compass and use that wisdom to guide us on our personal journey.
I first tried yoga in 2003 as a way to manage lower back pain and, to be honest, I really hated my first few classes. Even though I was fit and active, the yoga postures and language were completely foreign and I felt uncoordinated and lost. Thankfully I persevered and through a beginner’s course, and some one-on-one coaching, I began to feel more comfortable and enjoy my yoga.
I continued practising on and off for several years, really only using yoga as part of my physical exercise routine, until some wonderful teachers introduced me to the deeper aspects of yoga – meditation, philosophy and breathwork. Through their guidance I discovered the holistic benefits of yoga for fostering greater awareness and insight. Over the past 19 years my yoga practice has given me more resilience, compassion and optimism. I can now face my relationships and the challenges of my life with more authenticity, openness and acceptance.
In early 2016 I became a yoga teacher. I want to share the benefits I feel with people who are keen to deepen their practice and believe yoga can help them answer questions about themselves and the world around them.
I guide a gentle flowing style, recognising the importance of the breath and the pauses, and the balance between effort and ease. I also teach yin using the long holds as an opportunity for the body and mind to soften and open as well as leading Yoga Nidra, a beautiful and profound practice of awakened sleep.
I teach, as I live my life, from my heart, sharing what I’ve learnt from my own practice. I aim to make my classes and private sessions, safe spaces, allowing students to feel what’s right in their own bodies. If that sounds good, come and join me.
